“I am very excited to follow through on 2 projects I have been working on for the last couple years, the paper dolls and the soft sculpture. I am excited to explore live performance with my soft sculpture and would like to learn more about that.”

Artist Statement:
"My work is highly multidisciplinary, using whatever materials I can get my hands on. All of my work includes a sense of humor, irony, and absurdity to show the bizarre and heavy feeling of dissociation. I try to capture the imagery and movement that is comfortably familiar but invokes the unsettling yet unavoidable feeling that something is in fact off. In my most recent series, I produced paper dolls by photocopying myself on an industrial office printer and collaging all the pages to create a full lifesize body. Some of the dolls are framed frozen in a movement. Others are connected and suspended with fishing strings, which you, the audience, can control. Each doll creates a small vignette."

Lucy Black has worked on new techniques to further distort and abstract her image. Since becoming Art’s at Blue Roof’s first Artist in Residence Satellite Artist Lucy now has the ability to experiment in new ways, interact with her equipment and print out her large scans anytime to further push boundaries of what’s possible.
