Robin Strayhorn
Summer 2022 Artist in Residence
‘During the residency, I look forward to experimenting and exploring ideas I have been considering over the past few years. I want to take my paintings in a new direction and I’m excited to make paintings about my experiences in India.”

Artist Statement
Robin Strayhorn grew up in a household with creative parents which inspired her artistic journey. Her mother is an extremely talented painter, whose portrait and still life paintings inspired & motivated her as early as the age of 5. She studied art in high school and college, yet believed she’d become a lawyer. Unfulfilled, she realized her creative talents were being neglected which inspired her to commit to a regular practice of drawing and making while earning a living as a substitute teacher. She was later introduced to and mentored by Varnette Honeywood who ignited her passion for mono printing. Still, she would later find her niche in producing ceramic tile murals as public art. In 2007, Robin left her studio practice in Los Angeles to move to India where she studied spiritual practices at an ashram with a dedicated Guru. She continued this journey traveling back and forth from Los Angeles to India through 2019.

Realms of Conciousness
August 5 - August 31, 2022
“Realms of consciousness pays tribute to the enlightened masters whose lives, teachings and love have inspired me to recognize my own inner divinity. I have received so much knowledge and treasured experiences from my Swami Sri Kaleshwar and the paintings in this exhibition are the beginnings of my explorations into expressing my feelings artistically, creatively and spiritually about my time spent in India.”
